Device compatibility determines if your phone operates on the same band frequency as a given cell network. Cell phone carriers operate on CDMA and GSM towers. Dependent upon band frequency, a device will be activated on a CDMA or a GSM network. Many devices today have dual-band capabilities that allow them to operate on CDMA and GSM networks. While a device may be compatible with a network, it still may not be compatible with all services such as voice, text, and data. Device Lock Status
Device lock determines if a phone is eligible for use with another network than the one you are switching from. Devices may be locked because they were financed from a carrier on an installment plan or because they have not been activated on the network for a set amount of time. For a device to be eligible for transfer, it must be unlocked. To find out the device lock status of your device, take a look at our guide here.
